About Me & My Care Philosophy

Picture

Hello, my name is Heidi Comalli and I own and operate The Warm Handoff. I'm a graduate of the University of Vermont Robert Larner College of Medicine's End of Life Doula Program.
For the last decade I've worked in the medical field in a variety of roles. I have a unique perspective of the healthcare system that enables me easily to work with healthcare providers, social services and the client to ensure clear communication and that needs are met.
My love for this work was born out of caring for my mother during her cancer diagnosis, treatment and death. I took over coordinating her schedule, arranging transportation, keeping her other healthcare providers up to date, attended appointments with her and more so that she could focus on herself. I created many systems during this time that made all of our lives easier.
Being able to serve others at such a trying time is an honor.

My Care Philosophy

Death is my jam.
Believe me, I know how that sounds. I don't mean to be flippant. In my culture, everything about death is hushed with the exception of horror movies. What sets me apart from many, and makes me fit this role, is that where other's fear to speak about death and loss, I lean in. This is heavy stuff. There will most likely be tears, but there should also be laughter and fond memories. We're going to explore your life, your relationships, your values and your thoughts. It won't be easy, but you wont be alone. I won't be sweeping in wearing a black veil and speaking only in whispers. We'll have genuine conversation.
My role is to be with you during this process. It is not to decide, not to judge.
